Three giants of jazz recognised, acclaimed and in demand all over the world. John Patitucci, Dave Weckl and Joey Calderazzo, on their first tour of Italy and Europe together, will stop at the Teatro Ristori in Verona on Wednesday 15 May. During the evening, a European premiere, which has already been sold out for some time, their original compositions will be added to adaptations of jazz standards.
John Patitucci is an iconic, globally acclaimed bassist. Driven by eclectic tastes, he has explored all genres of music throughout his career, dressing as both musician and composer. Having become a key part of the legendary Chick Corea Electric Band, Patitucci went on to win two Grammys with his six solo recordings for GRP Records and subsequent recordings. Joining him at the Ristori is another enfant prodige: Joey Calderazzo, one of the best pianists of his generation and an elite member of the most renowned jazz ensembles. Calderazzo has accompanied musical geniuses such as Michael Brecker, Branford Marsalis, Jack DeJohnette and Dave Holland on stages all over the world. On his way to the pinnacle of jazz, he has boldly explored his own intimacy in search of his place in the world as a composer, improviser, band member but also leader.
Dave Weckl boasts collaborations with numerous artists, including George Benson, Chick Corea and Paul Simon, to name but a few. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000 by Modern Drummer magazine, Weckl was also named ‘one of the 25 best drummers of all time’. These accolades, which add to his very long list of achievements, are the result of his constant striving for excellence. Indeed, Weckl’s dynamic and diverse drumming stems from a perfect blend of fervent passion and in-depth study that has inspired musicians all over the world.
