Sunday, May 21st Straverona, the most attended race of the city, will cross the finish line of its number 40 edition. There will be many surprises for the thousands of runners who have been meeting for years under the clock of the arch that leads to Piazza Bra. For such an important birthday, Straverona introduces itself with a communication campaign dedicated to the “Veronese dialect” and a restyling of its logo. Prelude already the day before with the Straverona Junior, a race of the little ones in the name of fun for kids.

Three routes that will touch the most evocative points of the city. The runners will be able to compete in a 5km route – flat and without architectural barriers, suitable for families too – a second of 10 km that will include both flat and hilly terrain, and finally a 20km route that will include the city center and the hills surrounding Verona, to discover hidden gems and breathtaking landscapes.

All three routes will be highlighted with a different hashtag to show photos of runner participation taken during the day: 5 km – #Ricarica (#charging), 10 km – #Rincorsa (#Run-After), and 20 km – #Resistenza (#Resistance). The runners who compete in the most challenging route will start at 8.30 from Piazza Bra, followed by the runners of 10 km at 8.45 and finally by runners and walkers of 5 km who will start at 9.00.

STRAVERONA JUNIOR
On the eve of the great city race, Saturday, May 20th, 2023, the tenth Straverona Junior edition will be held, a race dedicated to children and young people aged 4 to 13 with the aim of involving them from an early age in sports and to convey the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.  At the end of the Straverona Junior, the Genitori&Figli relay race will take place, a fun race in which parents start and join their children halfway, in a moment of union and sharing. It starts at 15.30 and the award ceremony will take place at 18.00.  Registrations are open online on the site of Straverona

CULTURAL WALK
The collaboration with the Verona Minor Hierusalem Foundation has been renewed also for this year. The Fondation is the organizer of the traditional “Cultural Walk” that will be held on the same Saturday as the Junior Straverona, May 20th, starting at 14:00. The participants, accompanied by volunteers of Verona Minor Hierusalem, will follow a guided path to discover a number of beautiful churches and their treasures.

STRAVERONA CHARITY PROGRAM
The love for sport and movement will not be the only protagonist of the race. The streets of Verona will also be full of the desire to do concrete good. Another historical component, which will be proposed again this year, is the solidarity one, with a Charity Program that will involve a Veronese foundation that operates on a national scale. The Foundation for Research on Cystic Fibrosis – ETS, was founded in Verona 25 years ago and is now recognized as the first national body promoting scientific research on the most widespread serious genetic disease in Europe

NEW SLOGANS
Many new slogans will accompany Straverona. First of all “Cori che te ciapo” – “ Run fast or I’ll catch you” – the main slogan of the campaign that will also be on the t-shirts of runners.

The entire concept of the communication campaign is connected to all the social objectives the Verona race has set itself during the last forty years. These include the theme of sustainability. The Veronese race, in fact, invites everyone to respect the environment and the city for a better future with “Arda de far pulito”. The Veronese expression literally translates to “look, you must do clean” and is generally used to say to behave well, in this case towards an environment that we must leave clean.

The concept also explores the theme of social inclusion. Among the slogans, there is “tutto il mondo lè paese” which literally means “all the world is a village”. A way of emphasizing the fact that, despite the differences that characterize the world in which we live, there are human behaviours common to people who prescind from the country in which they were born. The world is therefore a great village full of diversity but also of aspects that unite us.

And always on the subject of inclusiveness, Straverona approaches all ages with “vien a corar col vecio” – “come running with your old man”, an affectionate way that Veronese people use to refer to their dads. And again with “cori bocia, cori” – “run kid, run” -, to emphasize the desire to admire the city of Verona through the eyes of a child.
