(Angelo Paratico) Verona is surrounded by greenery and has a young, active mayor who is very hard-working. The city has low crime rates and offers a wide range of recreational activities. In short, it is a happy place: there is no fine particulate matter, no potholes in the roads, no out-of-control immigration, and it even has a very clear and simple website. You will have already realized that we are not talking about “our Verona” but Verona in Wisconsin, United States. The young mayor is called Luke Diaz. He looks like a young lad but is very popular with the electorate. Located south-west of downtown Madison, it has a population of just over 15,000, with a growing community and numerous recreational, cultural, and commercial facilities. Residents enjoy a high quality of life, excellent schools, and the atmosphere of a typical small town in the United States. It may be a coincidence, but its symbol, instead of our staircase, is a wagon with plants, and the colors are yellow and blue.
We are only 12 miles from the Wisconsin State Capitol and the University of Wisconsin–Madison, 90 miles from Milwaukee, 150 miles from Chicago, and 270 miles from Minneapolis, making Verona a convenient location for many international and regional events. With an average household income of over £98,000, Verona is an ideal place to do business. Shopping, dining, and entertainment options are growing rapidly, and as the home of both Epic Systems and the new Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals campus, it is becoming an important location for companies looking to grow.

Verona was originally inhabited by Native Americans until it was ceded to the United States government, largely in 1829 and the rest in 1832. Settlement of the area revolved around the construction of Badger Mill, the county’s first mill, completed in 1844. A few years later, the mill was sold to a man named Samuel Taylor, who expanded it to include a store and post office, and soon after, various businesses opened in the area.
On 11 February 1847, it was officially accepted by the Wisconsin territorial legislature. The name Verona comes from another Verona, New York, the birthplace of the first settlers, George and William Vroman. The village of Verona was created by a request for incorporation and a referendum on 22 January 1921.
Its nickname is “Hometown U.S.A.” This was given to it in 1966 by a group of soldiers in Vietnam who adopted it as “the perfect example of a place to call home after travelling the world”. Every June, the town celebrates its nickname with an event called “Hometown Days”, which attracts people of all ages to enjoy the summer.
In early 1976, residents feared becoming a minor district of the city of Madison. This prompted the village president, Burr Weiland, to take action and discuss conversion to a town with the support of the town council. When all the preparations were complete, the town of Verona was officially created on 18 April 1978. Despite its small population, it has had several famous residents: politicians, Olympic champions, rugby and baseball players. It has a well-stocked library, schools, and first-class clinics.
