The Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona is a unique site for meditation located at an altitude of 774 meters on the cliffs of Monte Baldo in Spiazzi, Verona. Its spectacular setting, suspended between heaven and earth, distinguishes it as one of northern Italy’s most enchanting sanctuaries. Every year, hundreds of pilgrims and visitors from all over the world visit to enjoy not only the breathtaking scenery but also to immerse themselves in the spirituality and calm that this location provides.
The Sanctuary was founded around a thousand years ago by a group of hermits who resided in this lonely location. Originally known as “Madonna della Crona,” the name was later changed to “Madonna della Corona,” emphasizing the faithful’s love and the site’s link to the mountain. The Sanctuary has changed dramatically throughout the decades. In the fifteenth century, the Knights of St. John enlarged it to make it more accessible and spacious.
Today, the Sanctuary is a pilgrimage site, offering visitors an immersive spiritual experience enriched by the natural beauty of the surrounding area. Among the works of art held here, the Pietà figure, dating back to 1432, stands out as the sanctuary’s centerpiece. More recently, Andrea Trisciuzzi’s 1999-2000 creation of the world’s highest processional crucifix has come to symbolize Spiazzi.
