HAMLET LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN HIM BEFORE: THE TALENT SHOW BY COLLETTIVO CINETICO TAKES THE STAGE AT CAMPLOY
Who will “be or not be” the next Prince of Denmark chosen by the Verona audience?
Hamlet as you have never seen him before comes to the stage at Camploy on January 23 at 8:45 p.m., as part of the L’Altro Teatro – Come As You Are festival, organized at Camploy Theatre by the Municipality of Verona in collaboration with Arteven – Circuito Multidisciplinare del Veneto. This cultural initiative brings artists and companies to the Camploy Theatre stage who are capable of exploring new languages, crossing genres, and offering new visions of contemporary theatre.
Continuing a season that has been highly appreciated by the public and confirms their desire to explore contemporary issues, CollettivO CineticO, a renowned company founded by choreographer Francesca Pennini – winner of numerous awards including the UBU for Best Dance Performance in 2017, the Jurislav Korenic Award for Best Young Theatre Director, and the National Theatre Critics’ Award for Dance Theatre – returns to Verona. With Hamlet, one of the company’s most emblematic shows, CollettivO CineticO, recognized nationally as one of the most original and experimental companies on the performing arts scene, presents a reinterpretation in the form of a true talent show: the stage becomes an audition arena where professional and non-professional actors, bizarre and surprising figures – including amateurs, exhibitionists, shy intellectuals, and other unlikely characters – compete for the famous leading role. Real candidates, selected through a call, do not know what awaits them on stage. Their only reference is an instruction manual sent to them two weeks prior. Each prepares independently and arrives at the theatre ready to perform. Guided by a voiceover and accompanied by silent guards, the candidates face a series of challenges that summarize the formal principles of Shakespeare’s work, balancing irony and tragedy.

It is the audience, performance after performance, who elect the winner of the title of Hamlet, choosing the sole survivor among many possible interpretations. Thus, at the Camploy Theatre, a performance comes to life that combines theatre, stage play, and active participation, placing the collective experience of the audience at the center, for a show that is completely different every night.
The show: an unpredictable, lively, contemporary Hamlet
In this version by Francesca Pennini, Hamlet becomes an unpredictable theatrical device, a game that questions the very concept of representation. Each evening, the protagonist is chosen by the audience through a drawing, entrusting the role to one of the performers on stage – a mechanism that transforms Shakespeare’s masterpiece into a field of possibility, risk, and continuous reinvention. The text is deconstructed and recomposed into a physical, vocal, and choreographic score that alternates irony, tension, quotations, and improvisation, making the spectator an active part of the process.
Collettivo Cinetico’s Hamlet is an exploration of doubt, identity, and responsibility for one’s actions, conducted through a theatrical language that blends theatre, dance, and performance art. The famous “to be or not to be” monologue becomes the starting point for questioning the role of the actor, the fragility of the individual, and the very nature of theatre as a space of choice. The stage is transformed into an arena of possibilities, where every gesture can change the course of history and every performer can become, for one evening, the Prince of Denmark.
A special evening: CollettivO CineticO as talent and representation of the new scene
The presence of CollettivO CineticO in the festival sends a strong message: a commitment to promoting artists who have redefined the boundaries of contemporary theatre. The company, which has won numerous awards and is recognized for its radical yet accessible research, brings to Camploy a show that is both a poetic manifesto and a demonstration of collective talent. Hamlet thus becomes not only a classic title, but also an opportunity to showcase the vitality, creativity, and innovative capacity of the new Italian scene, through experiences that blend fantastic anthropology, happenings, laboratory experiments, and behavioral research.
Meetings with the Company – new
On the evening of the performance, at 7:00 p.m. in the foyer of the Camploy Theatre, there will be a meeting with CollettivO CineticO open to the public. This informal dialogue will explore the themes, creative processes, and visions that inspired the show, bringing the audience closer to the company’s work.
The L’Altro Teatro festival, promoted by the Municipality of Verona in collaboration with
Arteven, under the artistic direction of Fabrizio Arcuri, with Come As You Are, imagines the theater as a space of possibility and welcome, where no skills or codes are required – only the desire to be present.
Come as you are. The theater awaits you!
